Haneef Rahmani.

Haneef Rahmani Panangangara, a popular Malayalam writer, has a significant readership across the South Indian state of Kerala and the Malayali diaspora worldwide

A BRIEF STORY

Born in Panangangara, in the Malappuram District of Kerala in 1978 to K. Kunhimoitheen Mawlawi and Maimoona, Rahmani is the third in five siblings. His youthful years saw him build intellectual relationships with his brothers: Dr. Muhammad Basheer, Assistant Professor at the Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Off Campus; Mahmood Kooria, historian, academic, lecturer at the Leiden University in the Netherlands; and Dr. Muhammad Rafeeque and Dr. Muhammad Ashraf

His spiritual journey began at the Rahmaniyya Arabic College in Kadameri, where he studied for ten years. This stage of his education and growth revolved around Islamic Sciences and non-religious secular subjects. This balance fostered his passion for writing and his contributions to both Islamic and secular literature.

Literary Journey.

His first article got published in July 1996 in the Sunni Afkar Weekly about the founder of the Rahmaniyya Arabic College. From there, he wrote extensively in numerous magazines like Sathyadhara, Chandrika, Thelicham Monthly, among other publications. Currently, he regularly contributes to several journals, including Sathyadhara, Suprabhatham Daily, Santhushta Kudumbam Monthly, AlBirr Kids Magazine, Sunni Afkar Weekly, and Islamonweb.

Early Writing Career.

Rahmani’s writing career kick-started with articles published in Islamic magazines. He eventually ventured into mainstream publications where his writings commenced to reach a wider audience, benefitting both Islamic and secular thinkers a like.

Major Works in Malayalam Literature.

Among his notable works in Malayalam literature, his book “Athmabaliyude Anweshanam” (Investigation of Self-Sacrifice), an extended interview with the English writer Kamala Das, gained extensive appreciation. He also wrote books such as “Ningal Karanhalum Illenkilum” (Whether or Not You Cry), “Smapathika Samasyakalum Puthiya Samavakyangalum” (Economic Issues and New Equations) and “Pratheekshikkuka, Santhosham Akalayalla” (Be Optimistic, Happiness Is Not Far).

Major Works in Islamic Literature.

Rahmani is known for imprinting his spiritual journey in his writing. In the UAE, for several years, he wrote a weekly column called “Today’s Sermon” based on the Friday sermons issued by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments.
